It’s been said, “There’s something special about this place.”

Nestled in Nebraska City, Nebraska, Arbor Day Farm encompasses 260 acres of natural beauty and historical significance. This national historic treasure is home to Lied Lodge, the one-of-a-kind Tree Adventure, the Apple House Market, and Arbor Lodge State Historical Park which houses the Morton Mansion.

Arbor Day Farm is where the Arbor Day Foundation’s simple mission — to inspire people to plant, nurture, and celebrate trees — comes to life. Your visit helps further this mission by supporting the good work of the Arbor Day Foundation around the world.

Arbor Lodge State Historical Park is the original home of the Morton family of Morton Salt fame. It was here in 1872 that the idea for the first Arbor Day began — as a way to encourage people everywhere to plant trees so desperately needed. On the first Arbor Day, nearly 1 million trees were planted in Nebraska.

The highlight of this 72-acre park is the historic mansion, with its 52 rooms and countless historic artifacts belonging to the Morton Family. The park also includes an arboretum, Italian terraced garden, log cabin, carriage house, walking trails, more than 200 varieties of lilacs, and a charming whispering bench.

Next on the tour is our private Discovery Ride. Climb aboard and embark on a guided tour into the heart of the orchards and forest. See and learn from an experienced tour guide about Arbor Day Farm’s native trees and animals, tree research, orchards, and history.

After the tour you can find lunch on the farm and spend time exploring on your own. Thereafter, our time at Lied Lodge has come to an end. We board the bus, find dinner on the way in Ames, Iowa (included) and continue on to the Historic Park Inn in Mason City. It’s the last remaining Frank Lloyd Wright hotel in the world. It has undergone a stunning, meticulous historically accurate renovation. It’s a destination hotel as people come from wide and far just to stay here for its historical significance – and it is our hotel for the night.

May 18th - After breakfast (included), at 10 am we take a tour of the hotel where you learn insights into the design and impact of Frank Lloyd Wright’s work and its significance today and explore restored public places of the hotel. We enjoy lunch (included) at Markley & Blythe located in the hotel. After the tour we head for Prairie du Chien.

The Villa Louis is a National Historic Landmark located on St. Feriole Island, in Prairie du Chien, southwestern Wisconsin. The villa and estate are a historical museum operated by the Wisconsin Historical Society. The site has been restored to its appearance during the late 19th century, when it was the estate of the prominent H. Louis Dousman family, descendants of a fur trader and entrepreneur. We take the tour and head for dinner.
