Travel Through Time
It was the getaway island for lumber baron Frank Deming Stout, one of the wealthiest men in America, and his family and friends. The main lodge was constructed in 1912 using the best cedar logs from Idaho. It was built to include modern luxuries like plumbing and electricity. The stone for the fireplace was from Italy. There is a steel bridge that was gifted by Andrew Carnegie. In the end the vision cost $1.5 million – around $35 million in today’s money. The island also features many cabins, all were built in the Adirondack style of the northeast.

August 27 - 7:30 am – We Leave Milwaukee from the Watertown Plank Park and Ride and head for the Cook-Rutledge Mansion, where we enjoy a canape lunch (included) and tour.

Edward Rutledge was a self-made man who worked in the lumber industry in Chippewa Falls and through hard work and smart investments became wealthy. He purchased the mansion in 1887 and added to it and remodeled it extensively. His vision is what you see today, a tribute to his lumber industry ties.
